The hunt for a new laptop

So I’m in the market for a new laptop!
This is something that’s been long overdue for me. As an internet professional, I believe that it’s very important to be able to go mobile at any time, and truthfully, I haven’t been practicing what I preach. How a person in my situation goes for so long without a laptop of my own (wife has one though) is beyond me.
Even though my PC is very nice (and water cooled), it keeps me confined to one corner of the house and I don’t like that. I’d love to be able to work from the table, patio, or even an emo coffee shop once in awhile. I’d also love to be able to get rid of that mess of cables beneath my desk and possibly turn that monster PC into a third back up server of sorts for the websites.
What I’m stuck on is whether I should go the Alienware / Sager route, or something less? I’m going to have to set a hard number so I don’t end up dropping $2,700+. I know that Acer has some pretty decent LT’s out right now as well that wouldn’t break the bank.
I’d be lieing if I said it was purely for business, as I’m sure I’ll want to game at some point. I’ll need a 17 inch screen, good cpu (intel core i7), solid amount of ram, and a top mobile video card. Any ideas?
Three Webmaster Podcasts You Must Listen To
Let’s be honest, most Webmaster Radio shows suck aren’t as good as they could be. These three (in no particular order) however not only live up to their potential, but do a really excellent job of keeping my attention and dishing out relevant news, tips, and tricks:
The Shoemoney Show is a podcast on WebmasterRadio.fm hosted by Jeremy “ShoeMoney” Schoemaker. The main topics that he covers are how to make money online through both affiliate marketing and PPC. If you want to learn the skills to pay the bills this program is a can’t miss. I really like it because Shoemoney tends to be a show that doesn’t spend much time on Search Engine Optimization topics, so it get’s me thinking about other aspects of internet marketing. If you happen to be an SEO, I highly recommend giving it a listen – it will help you think outside the box.
2. Ecom Phenom
If you delve in the fast paced E-Commerce industry, Ecom Phenom is seriously the stuff of legends. Hosted by Toolbarn.com’s Brian Mark & Robert Garcia a.k.a. Rumblepup. They frequently talk about some really in depth E-Commerce issues (beyond the typical SEO stuff) such as cross selling, data feed optimization, SSL.
3. Webcology
Hosted by Jim Hedger and Dave Davies, Webcology is probably the most entertaining of the Webmaster related podcasts out there. They cover all of the latest industry news and focus on topics surrounding web marketing.
There you have it. These three podcasts I listen to on a weekly basis without fail.
If there isn’t a new cast streaming, I’ll just click on the archives. Ecom Phenom is a relatively new program so their archives is much smaller than the others – but Shoemoney Show and Webcology have been around for a long time so they should have quite a few episodes to keep you busy.
